Featuring: mobile homes mobiles

Who says mobiles are just for kids?  We were like three grown up kids at Christmas time when Kim Baise's original folk art creations arrived in the mail all the way from Californ-I-A.

No two exactly alike, you'll find airstream trailers, adobe houses, a-frames and teepees alongside wall tents and log cabins - our special requests.  Check out Kim's blog to find out more about her creative life and art.

News flash: We see from her latest post that the mobiles were just featured on Design Sponge - Um hello big time, Kim calling. Way to go!

For the menfolk

Modern Burl is about more than just the ladies. In fact, the MB collective was founded by 3 of our burlier counterparts over very manly drinks one cold January. (OK truth be told, they were kir royales.)

For the good men of Whitehorse and the gals (and guys) who love them, we've got some excellent gift options.

A natty professor cardigan with leather elbow pads

The essential guide to form, function and ennui from the creators of Unhappy Hipsters (a Modern Burl fave)

Stop Talking calling cards. For times when a kick under the table is just not enough.

Man bling. Handmade in silver and wood.

Super awesome wolf shadow puppet hand screened t-shirt.

Cutting Board. For meat.

Wood shaker table (available in ash). For displaying manly knick knacks.

Modern Burl bling: natured inspired

When we were putting together our list of must haves for the pop up shop, we knew that jewelry had to play a part. It is the holiday season after all, and nothing brightens the darkness of a chilly winter morning quite like a new pair of ear bobs.

We also knew that Whitehorse women are a discerning bunch. No run of the mill hoops, boring studs or cutesy pendants were going to cut it.

We searched the world to assemble our collection of nature inspired jewelry, from as close to home as Vancouver to the far flung reaches of Greece.

Here's a taste of what we've brought together. Stock is limited with only one or two available in most designs. (It's a small town and we like to try to keep it original, too.)

cold outside? we've got you covered!

It may be cold outside, but baby, you're going to look good all bundled up if we at Modern Burl have anything to say about it.

Forgo those usual suspects (you know the ones: pilly fleece and boxy sweaters) in favour of these cutting edge but still oh so cozy sweater and coat designs from Little Houses.

The perfect marriage of form meets function.

For your guy - we recommend a classic Wes Anderson meets cute rumpled professor wool cardigan with leather elbow patches. Hurry though, only 2 left!

For your lovely noggin, may we recommend this stylized knitted cap by Poland's Celapiu - these have been selling like hotcakes!

Because we like to keep it local too - and who knows cold weather gear better than a northerner - we're excited to carry a range of knitwear by local textile designer, Jessica Vellenga. No two alike!

Just a peek at the many beautiful and practical clothing and accessories available at Modern Burl.
